These walk-around photos were taken at IWM Duxford in 2018. They show a Hawker Hurricane displayed as Z2315 / JU-E of No. 111 Squadron — one of the RAF's most famous fighter squadrons and the first to receive the Hurricane in 1937. The Hurricane was Britain's first monoplane fighter and the workhorse of the Battle of Britain, accounting for the majority of aerial victories during that critical campaign in the summer and autumn of 1940. Rugged, stable and easy to maintain and repair, it fought in virtually every theatre of the war, from the skies over France and Britain to North Africa, the Mediterranean and the Far East.
This particular airframe is a Mk IIb, assembled from wreckage recovered from the former Soviet Union, where around 3,000 Hurricanes were supplied under the Lend-Lease programme. Its true identity is unknown, the only clue being a stamp suggesting one of the components may be from BE146. It is displayed in the markings of a Mk I of No. 111 Squadron during the Battle of Britain — a period when the squadron flew from Duxford itself.
