Sweden purchased 60 ex-RAF Mosquito night fighters in 1948, designating them J 30 and assigning them to F 1 at Västerås as the Air Force's first dedicated night fighter unit. One distinguishing feature of the Swedish aircraft was the four-bladed propellers, fitted as replacements for the original three-bladed ones which were in poor condition. The J 30 remained in service until 1954, when it was replaced by the de Havilland Venom.
The starting point is Airfix's 2003 1:48 release, which included parts for the night fighter variant. Converting it to Swedish markings needed just two things beyond the box: four-bladed propellers — these from Paragon Designs, though other options exist — and wing aerials, which are straightforward enough to scratch-build. The decals are from Moose Republic, and as usual they deliver: well-researched and excellent quality. The kit itself has its roots in a 1977 tooling but holds up reasonably well for its age.
