Slowly but surely I'm working my way through the Swedish Air Force — and this time it's the trainer designated Sk 25, a Bücker Bü 181 Bestmann. The type has an interesting Swedish connection: the chief designer at Bücker Flugzeugbau was a Swede, Anders Johan Andersson. Sweden later acquired a licence to build the type domestically through Hägglund & Sons in Örnsköldsvik, producing 120 aircraft between 1943 and 1946. The Sk 25 remained in service until 1954 when it was replaced by the SAAB Safir.
The kit is Special Hobby's 1:48 release from 2016, and despite being relatively recent it has the feel of an older tooling — with the exception of the cockpit, which comes with some decent detailing. The luggage net adds a lot to the finished impression. Things like separate control surfaces feel like a given on a modern 1:48 kit, and their absence here is noticeable.
